The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Henry Conrad Lauerman (NSN: 0-81013), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Torpedo Data Computer Operator of the U.S.S. HALIBUT (SS-232), during four extensive War Patrols of that Submarine in enemy-controlled waters. Skillfully carrying out his duties in the face of desperate and persistent anti-submarine measures on the part of the enemy, Lieutenant Lauerman, by his excellent judgment and cool courage under fire, contributed materially to the destruction by his ship of an important amount of Japanese shipping. His conscientious devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Commander [then Lieutenant Commander] Henry Conrad Lauerman (NSN: 0-81013), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Assistant Approach Officer of the U.S.S. SEALION (SS-315), during the First War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy Japanese-controlled waters, from 23 June to 7 August 1944. Exercising professional skill and ingenuity, Commander Lauerman rendered invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in the planning and execution of attacks against enemy shipping, thereby contributing directly to the success of his vessel in sinking four hostile ships, totaling 19,560 tons. Coolly efficient during severe enemy countermeasures, he aided in the conduct of successful evasive tactics and, by his initiative and unwavering devotion to duty, upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Second Gold Star in lieu of a Third Award of the Silver Star to Commander [then Lieutenant Commander] Henry Conrad Lauerman (NSN: 0-81013), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Assistant Approach Officer of the U.S.S. SEALION (SS-315), during the SECOND War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy Japanese-controlled waters, from 17 August to 30 September 1944. Skilled and tireless in the performance of duty, Commander Lauerman expertly supervised the activities of the personnel under his command and, by his excellent judgment and thorough knowledge of attack problems, rendered invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting aggressive attacks against the enemy which resulted in the sinking of over 50,000 tons of enemy shipping. His leadership, courage and devotion to the completion of each perilous mission reflect the highest credit upon Commander Lauerman and the United States Naval Service.
