The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Commander Albert Schorr Fuhrman (NSN: 0-78861), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the U.S.S. STURGEON (SS-187), during the THIRD War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy controlled waters from 15 March to 7 May 1942. As Communications Officer, his skillful supervision and excellent coordination of communications throughout the ship, and inspiring leadership of communication personnel, assisted his Commanding Officer in conducting successful attacks which resulted in the sinking of one enemy ship and damaging another for a total damage to the enemy of 10,000 tons sunk and 7,000 tons damaged. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
