The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Commander Allen Russell Faust (NSN: 0-77025), United States Navy, for heroic service as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. TREPANG (SS-412), during the THIRD War Patrol of that vessel in enemy Japanese-controlled waters from January to March 1945. Despite the presence of numerous anti-submarine vessels working together in “hunter-killer” groups, Commander Faust launched two skillful torpedo attacks which resulted in the sinking of a 6,100-ton enemy freighter and the damaging of a 2,300-ton freighter. By his brilliant evasive tactics, he escaped strong hostile countermeasures and brought his ship safe to port. Commander Faust’s leadership and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Commander Faust is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
