The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Commander Allen Russell Faust (NSN: 0-77025), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. TREPANG (SS-412), in action against enemy Japanese forces during the FOURTH War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy controlled waters from 20 April to 22 May 1945. Skillfully penetrating escort screens, Commander Faust launched smartly-conducted torpedo attacks which resulted in the sinking of three enemy ships, totaling 11,000 tons and ably evading all enemy countermeasures, and succeeded in bringing his ship back safe to port. His outstanding leadership, courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Commander Allen Russell Faust (NSN: 0-77025), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. TREPANG (SS-412), during the FIFTH War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy-controlled waters near the Japanese Homeland from 15 June to 31 July 1945. Alert and untiring in the performance of his duties, Commander Faust saved the lives of ten Allied aviators shot down in hostile waters in three separate rescues and launched two torpedo and two gun attacks which resulted in sinking 4,000 tons of shipping despite severe enemy countermeasures. His leadership and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Commander Allen Russell Faust (NSN: 0-77025), United States Navy, for heroic service as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. TREPANG (SS-412), during the THIRD War Patrol of that vessel in enemy Japanese-controlled waters from January to March 1945. Despite the presence of numerous anti-submarine vessels working together in “hunter-killer” groups, Commander Faust launched two skillful torpedo attacks which resulted in the sinking of a 6,100-ton enemy freighter and the damaging of a 2,300-ton freighter. By his brilliant evasive tactics, he escaped strong hostile countermeasures and brought his ship safe to port. Commander Faust’s leadership and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Commander Faust is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
