The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal John R. Sinclair, United States Army, for gallantry in action in connection with combat operations against the enemy while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division in the Admiralty Islands on 25 March 1944. When his platoon was pinned down by enemy machine gun fire, Corporal Sinclair crawled forward alone, found the gun emplacement, and destroyed it with grenades. His actions enabled the American forces to take a key ridge.
