(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Technician Fourth Grade William R. Jinks (ASN: 6281804), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 1st Medical Squadron, 1st Cavalry Division, in action in the Admiralty Islands on 30 March 1944. Technician Fourth Grade Jinks was a member of the medical detachment, but organized a rescue party and went to the front lines in an effort to rescue men, who had been wounded. He was killed by a sniper’s bullet as he lifted a wounded comrade to a litter. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
