(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Barney C. Clary, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment of the 1st Cavalry Division, in action against the enemy during an assault on a heavily entrenched position east of Manila, in 1945. Private Clary was attacked as a Medical Aidman to an engineer demolition squad engaged in demolition caves and bunkers. When enemy mortar shells landed near the working party, one man was wounded so badly that he was unable to pull himself to cover. Wounded in the same bust, Private Clary dashed forward and bandaged the man’s wounds. Then, as the barrage increased, he picked the man up and carried him to safety out of range of the enemy. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Clary, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
