The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Clyde T. Crouch (ASN: 33437742), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 303d Infantry Regiment, 97th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an armed enemy. In severe fighting near Troisdorf, Germany, on 11 April 1945, Private Crouch left the security of a building to go to the aid of a seriously wounded officer. While courageously moving forward Private Crouch was fired on and killed by enemy machine gun fire as he crossed an open area. His gallant performance of duty on this occasion reflects high credit upon himself and the Armed Forces.
