The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Llewellyn R. Johnson, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 386th Infantry Regiment, 97th Infantry Division, in action at Drabenderhohe, Germany, on 12 April 1945. The initial attack on this town met with terrific hostile fires of all sorts and the advance was soon checked. After a hasty reorganization the attack was renewed but made little progress. At this point Captain Johnson unhesitatingly moved out in front of his men and fearlessly led them fifteen hundred yards over fire-swept terrain to capture the town. His inspired troops in overrunning the enemy positions destroyed three hostile artillery pieces and eighteen automatic weapons. Captain Johnson’s gallant and determined leadership on this occasion reflect high credit upon himself and the Armed Forces.
