The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Marvin H. Adam, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 303d Infantry Regiment, 97th Infantry Division, in action at Bernau, Germany, on 30 April 1945. In the vicinity of this town, elements of a rifle platoon were pinned down by a heavy volume of hostile machine gun fire at a range of 100 yards. Disregarding the continuing intense enemy fire and with no thought of personal safety, Sergeant Adam got to his feet and with such fury, assaulted the hostile position that two of the enemy were killed, two others captured and the remainder forced to withdraw. This bold action enabled troops of the platoon to kill three more of the enemy as they attempted to disengage themselves. The gallantry displayed on this occasion reflects high credit upon himself and the Armed Forces.
