The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Paul A. Goodlett (ASN: 15045686), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Armored Division on 19 October 1944, in the vicinity of Ca Di Barbiers, Italy. Corporal Goodlett, while under artillery fire, left his place of cover and proceeded through an enemy anti-personnel minefield in order to go to the aid of a wounded comrade who had stepped on one of the mines. Corporal Goodlett picked up the wounded man, and while still under enemy artillery fire, carried the wounded man through the minefield to a sheltered spot where he administered first aid. The courageous action and concern for a wounded comrade, with utter disregard for his own safety, as shown by Corporal Goodlett, reflects the finest traditions of the armed forces and is worthy of the highest praise.
