The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private] Donald R. Dausey (ASN: 16095179), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Armored Division on 25 May 1944, in the vicinity of Cisterna di Littoria, Italy. Private First Class Dausey, a member of an armored infantry regiment, was in position with his mortar platoon in a deep wadi. The rifle companies were on the line 300 yards forward of the mortar platoon, in the vicinity of Cisterna di Littoria. On the morning of 25 May 1944, the enemy laid in a heavy artillery, mortar, and machine gun barrage on the rifle companies, wounding a number of our troops. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, and beyond the call of duty, Private First Class Dausey volunteered his services. Under heavy fire he made his way up to the rifle companies where he administered first aid to the wounded and evacuated fifteen to the safety of the wadi. While returning to his platoon in the wadi, he spotted some enemy mortar positions and, by directing fire, was instrumental in knocking out three enemy mortars. The voluntary action and courage under fire as displayed by Private First Class Dausey reflects the finest traditions of the armed forces and merits the highest praise.
