The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Chief Master Sergeant Edward W. Colquhoun, Jr., United States Air Force, for meritorious achievement as Chief Enlisted Manager, 732d Expeditionary Intelligence Squadron, 732d Expeditionary Group, 332d Air Expeditionary Wing, while engaged in combat against an enemy of the United States at Joint Base BALAD, Iraq, from 10 January 2008 to 8 July 2008. During this period, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Chief Colquhoun’s superior leadership inspired over 350 deployed Airmen, assigned to 26 locations, to deliver unparalleled support to Joint and Coalition forces as part of the United States Air Forces’ most diverse intelligence unit in Iraq. He was directly responsible for ensuring Joint Sourcing Solution Airmen were organized, trained, and equipped to fulfill 27 United States Central Command requests for forces in support of 43 Army, Marine Corps, Special Operations, Joint, and Coalition organizations. Chief Colquhoun’s improvements to mission essential training and equipment shortfalls for Tactical Signals Intelligence operators assigned to United States Army units contributed to the capture of 47 high-value individuals and targets. Facing persistent danger from indirect fire attacks and improvised explosive devices, Chief Colquhoun traveled over 5,000 miles by convoy logistics patrol and air transport, to ensure the health and welfare of his Airmen and to strengthen command relationships with tactical control authorities and direct support units. He expertly negotiated an agreement o access Airmen previously out of reach, leading to a total validation of critical career field training requirements, eliminating mission deviations for 90 combat Airmen supporting Special Operations Forces. The exemplary leadership, personal endeavor, and devotion to duty displayed by Chief Colquhoun in this responsible position reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
