Headquarters, 5th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 36 (September 28, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Marvin L. Rouhier (ASN: 35607561), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 5th Infantry Division, in action on 18 August 1944, in the vicinity of Allaines, France. Private Rouhier and another man were stationed at an advance outpost when they discovered that enemy armor was approaching. The reconnaissance platoon, of which Private Rouhier was a member, was quickly notified by radio; the radio was then destroyed to prevent it falling into enemy hands. Under accurate enemy fire from automatic weapons and hand grenades Private Rouhier displayed the highest type of courage by remaining in his position and returning the enemy’s fire until he was fatally wounded. Later reconnaissance revealed that there were twenty enemy vehicles in the attack. Private Rouhier was directly responsible for the information furnished the entire division of the impending armored attack. Private Rouhier’s gallantry in action, courage, devotion to duty and self-sacrifice reflects great credit upon himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of our armed forces.
