The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Sergeant Edward E. Roelofs, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious service to the United States as a Senior Squad Leader and operational support team member, Command Liaison Element, United States Forces – Iraq, Baghdad, Iraq, from 12 December 2009 to 1 August 2010 during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Sergeant Roelof’s tactical acumen and tenacious leadership resulted in the safe and successful execution of over 120 operations into the high risk Red Zone, a No Fail Environment. The security protection his unit provided during different occasions throughout dangerous areas of Iraq helped satisfy critical strategic and national level requirements, directly supported the warfighter, and saved American lives. Sergeant Roelof’s actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect distinct credit upon himself, the United States Forces – Iraq, and the United States Army.
