The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) George B. Blackstock (ASN: 0-1330258), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Commanding Officer of Company M, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 27 February 1951, in the vicinity of Yongmal, Korea. On that date, his heavy weapons company was supporting a battalion attack on well-fortified enemy positions on a hill. The enemy, under cover of darkness and supported by intense mortar and automatic weapons fire, launched a savage counterattack. Captain Blackstock, disregarding his own safety, advanced through the heavy enemy fire until he reached the foremost elements of the battalion from where he directed the fire of his machine gun and 75-mm. recoilless rifle squads. Continuously exposing himself to the withering enemy fire, he employed his weapons so accurately that the enemy counterattack was repulsed and the enemy suffered numerous casualties. The courageous leadership, initiative and devotion to duty of Captain Blackstock reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
