(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Sergeant Jacob J. Perkins, United States Army, was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy on 22 July 2011. Sergeant Perkins ensured the survival of five civilians and the safety of 24 more, over a 12 hour period, after a tour bus from Ontario, Canada, to New York City for a three-day tour, was involved in an accident and caught fire. Sergeant Perkins, after entering the burning bus and assisting those in greatest need, also reunited a hospitalized victim with his family after they were separated.
