The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Hugh D. Kevin (AFSN: 0-49897), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller near Chu Lai, Republic of Vietnam, on 3 September 1970. On that date, Major Kevin directed tactical aircraft against a well-fortified hostile base camp. Despite rugged terrain and marginal weather conditions, he employed tactical aircraft in destroying or damaging ninety military structures. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Kevin reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
