The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Jerry L. Goode, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an RB-66 Navigator over Southeast Asia on 29 July 1970. On that date, while flying in an unarmed electronic countermeasures aircraft, he experienced complete failure of his navigational radar shortly after takeoff. However, since he had been tasked to provide vital support for an extremely important tactical mission, he positioned his aircraft by the use of dead reckoning procedures and rendered essential support until all aircraft had safely egressed the operational area. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Goode reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
