(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Armor) William W. Cobb (ASN: 0-45651), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force on 30 January 1967 while serving as Commanding Officer, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in the Republic of Vietnam. On this date, two squadrons of Colonel Cobb’s regiment were involved in a mechanized search and destroy mission while participating in Operation MONCIE. During the mechanized advance his armored elements encountered a deadly and (Remainder of Citation unreadable). His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
