The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Theodore S. Roosevelt (AFSN: AO-2071705), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on 14 July 1955. On that date, while transporting 79 combat equipped personnel from Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, to Travis Air Force Base, California, the C-124 on which Captain Roosevelt was Aircraft Commander, experienced the loss of two engines, more than 300 miles from land. With an exceptional demonstration of superior flying ability and technique, Captain Roosevelt, displaying calm calculation and objective thinking throughout the crisis, successfully effected an emergency landing at Hamilton Air Force Base, California, thereby averting a major catastrophe. By his intrepid determination, courage an selfless devotion to duty, Captain Roosevelt has reflected the greatest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
