The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Richard Nelson (ASN: 0-1181704), United States Army, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights against the enemy in Korea as a member of the 24th Infantry Division Artillery, from 22 July to 22 August 1950. His outstanding courage and dedication to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
