The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Kenneth R. Corliss, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 71st Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division, in France, 24 December 1944. Private First Class Corliss bravely dared enemy machine gun fire that was pinning down his platoon, to rescue a seriously wounded member of his company that had not been given medical attention because of the intensive superiority of firepower the enemy had at his command at this time. For such firm and courageous spirit shown by Private First Class Corliss, incentive was given the remaining men of his platoon so that the objective was taken and the life of a soldier was saved. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
