The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Gerrit J. Rensink (ASN: 37043068), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 1st Ranger Battalion, on the early morning of 12 February 1943, in the vicinity 5 miles west of Sened Station, Tunisia. Under heavy fire from two places, Sergeant Rensink charged one enemy position and reduced their resistance. With fixed bayonet, he continue the assault on the second position and destroyed the enemy, which allowed the advance of the other members of his section. Sergeant Rensink’s devotion to duty and display of courage, was an inspiration to all members of his section, which was directly responsible for the successful raid conducted by the members of his group. The courage and leadership of Sergeant Rensink is highly commendable and reflects great credit upon the command.
