The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Owen E. Sweasey (ASN: 35170749), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 1st Ranger Battalion, on the early morning of 12 February 1943, in the vicinity 5 miles west of Sened Station, Tunisia. Corporal Sweasey, acting as scout for his squad in the assault, charged a machine gun nest with fixed bayonet under direct fire from the enemy position and reduced resistance which allowed the other members of his platoon to successfully continue the attack. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Sweasey, is a credit to his command and deserving of highest praise.
