The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit to Brigadier General Max Frank Schneider (ASN: 0-10840/158A), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States during the period 1 July 1948 to 12 May 1949. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Schneider and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Max Frank Schneider (ASN: 0-10840/158A), United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. As Deputy Air Inspector, Headquarters, Army Air Forces, he performed meritorious and distinguished service from September 1943 to May 1946. To meet the important need for training men in the policies, techniques and procedures of Air Inspection, he accomplished the establishment of a course at the Air Forces School and maintained supervision over its curriculum. He devised new and highly specialized inspection techniques to insure that Air Forces units were qualified for their overseas missions. During frequent and extended absences of the Air Inspector General, he ably and energetically administered the full responsibilities of the office. Through his initiative and resourcefulness and sound judgment, General Schneider contributed greatly to the accomplishment of the Army Air Forces.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel (Air Corps) Max Frank Schneider (ASN: 0-10840/158A), United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States. Colonel Schneider was liaison representative for the Commanding General, ** ** in the Zone of the Interior during the period 10 August 1942 to 18 February 1943. Colonel Schneider was entrusted with the highly important task of coordinating with the supply and technical services for the procurement, allocation, and shipment of supplies, equipment, and material essential to the Force in anticipation of its entry into an active theater of operations. His unusual judgment, expert professional knowledge, foresight and careful planning in the execution of this highly important assignment in which both secrecy and the element of time were important factors, were reflected in the effective operations of this force in the North African Theater.
