The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Max Frank Schneider (ASN: 0-10840/158A), United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. As Deputy Air Inspector, Headquarters, Army Air Forces, he performed meritorious and distinguished service from September 1943 to May 1946. To meet the important need for training men in the policies, techniques and procedures of Air Inspection, he accomplished the establishment of a course at the Air Forces School and maintained supervision over its curriculum. He devised new and highly specialized inspection techniques to insure that Air Forces units were qualified for their overseas missions. During frequent and extended absences of the Air Inspector General, he ably and energetically administered the full responsibilities of the office. Through his initiative and resourcefulness and sound judgment, General Schneider contributed greatly to the accomplishment of the Army Air Forces.
