The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Billy R. Poindexter, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 20th Armored Division, 20th Armored Division in Munich during World War II. When accurate and overwhelming enemy small arms and machine gun fire made evacuation of the wounded almost impossible, Corporal Poindexter unhesitatingly and without regard for personal safety rushed into the firing to bring the wounded men back to a place of safety. His courage and unselfishness were largely responsible for saving the lives of both wounded men. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
