The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Adrian B. Williams (ASN: 35893519), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 18 March 1945, in the vicinity of Ommersheim, Germany. When Sergeant Williams was on the extreme left flank of his platoon, he observed fifteen enemy who were working their way toward him. Without regard for his personal safety, he gathered some hand grenades and worked his way out to ambush them. He threw seven white phosphorus grenades and five fragmentation grenades, and then opened fire with his carbine, eliminating the entire patrol. Sergeant Williams’ gallant action reflects credit upon himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
