The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Ernest H. Parrett (ASN: 18180359), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 20 April 1945, in the vicinity of Sulzdorf, Germany. When the company received heavy machine gun fire in the attack on the town, Sergeant Parrett, despite the intense enemy fire, made his way forward towards the enemy gun. Observing the enemy gunner in a house, he made his way from house to house and with rifle grenades scored direct hits on the enemy position. With the enemy gun eliminated, the company was then able to continue the advance. Sergeant Parrett, in returning to join his platoon, was fatally wounded by an enemy sniper. The gallantry and devotion to duty of Sergeant Parrett reflect credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
