Headquarters, 63d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 592 (August 26, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Roy A. Lee (ASN: 44030603), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 12 April 1945, in the vicinity of Wolportshausen, Germany. Private First Class Lee, in the attack across an open field, voluntarily led the company through eight wire entanglements into the town. When the company reached the edge of town, Private First Class Lee’s platoon received heavy fire from riflemen and supporting weapons. Crawling to within twenty yards of the enemy machine gun position, he succeeded in killing its two occupants. Reloading his weapon, he advanced on the enemy riflemen, firing assault fire. Expending a full clip of ammunition, he charged forward and with powerful butt strokes, killed an enemy rifleman and captured another. Private First Class Lee’s gallantry in action and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
