The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant [then Staff Sergeant] John A. Lindquist (ASN: 39388176), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 1 February 1945, in the vicinity of Jebsheim, France. Leading his platoon, Sergeant Lindquist successfully assaulted and captured an enemy pillbox. After deploying his platoon, he advanced single-handed against two more enemy machine gunners who were directing intense fire on his captured position, causing many casualties. By the use of grenades and assault fire, he destroyed the enemy machine gun, and although wounded, led his platoon to take its objective. The gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Lindquist reflect the highest credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
