The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Johnny B. Moreno (ASN: 37741912), United States Army, for heroism not involving conflict with the enemy while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, on 17 June 1945, in the vicinity of Gamburg, Germany. When a soldier dove into the stream he struck his head on a submerged rock. Private First Class Moreno, noticing that he had not reappeared, immediately dove into the water to seek the stunned man. After diving into the water several times he located the injured man and brought him to shore. Then by applying artificial respiration he succeeded in reviving him. The bravery displayed by Private First Class Moreno reflects credit upon himself and is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
