The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Jim K. Dale, Jr. (ASN: 38550979), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 2 April 1945, in the vicinity of Tiefenbach, Germany. The platoon of which Private Dale was scout received heavy enemy machine gun fire. In advance of the platoon, Private Dale, with little regard for his own safety, made his way to within grenade throwing distance of the nearest enemy gun. Hurling a grenade, he succeeded in killing the enemy and destroying the gun. Then, inching forward toward another enemy machine gun, he was caught in an enemy crossfire and killed instantly. The gallant action and outstanding devotion to duty of Private Dale reflect the highest credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
