The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Harold K. LaCrosse (ASN: 35243620), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 24 April 1945, in the vicinity of Leipheim, Germany. By his skillful leadership, Sergeant LaCrosse advanced his squad through enemy small arms and mortar fire to a strong position from which he was able to locate the enemy in a building to his front. Working his way under fire, he threw a hand grenade into the building, disorganizing the occupants. Entering, he killed or wounded ten of the enemy. Again leading his squad forward, he engaged an enemy tank with a bazooka, causing it to withdraw. Sergeant LaCrosse’s outstanding leadership and actions reflect the highest credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
