The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Specialist Sixth Class Roy Eugene Judkins, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam, while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 184th Ordnance Battalion. Specialist Sixth Class Judkins distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions during the period 4 through 8 December 1968 while serving as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team member in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist 6 Judkins distinguished himself by sustained heroic actions by twice participating in surgical procedures involving armed and dangerous explosive ordnance. Specialist Judkins selflessly entered operating rooms to remove 40-mm. grenades from the extremities of wounded Republic of Vietnam personnel. He also, without regard for his own safety, exposed himself to enemy fire while extracting another soldier from a minefield. Specialist Judkins’ action, personal bravery, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service, and reflect great credit on himself and the United States Army.
