The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Harry Tennent, Jr. (ASN: 0-2007063), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company M, 3d Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 15 April 1945, in the vicinity of Jungholzhausen, Germany. When the company was held up by intense enemy fire, Lieutenant Tennent brought his machine guns forward into firing positions. Emplacing one of his guns twenty yards in front of the rifle troops, he placed effective fire on the enemy, although he was under intense fire from enemy machine guns. After being wounded in three placed by enemy machine gun fire, he refused first aid and set out to locate the hostile gun position. He located the position, neutralized it with grenades, and then withdrew to a house in the rear for first aid. While being treated, he heard a noise in the cellar of the house. Arming himself with a pistol, he rushed downstairs and captured five enemy soldiers. Lieutenant Tennent’s outstanding courage and devotion to duty under enemy fire are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
