The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Andrew Ordschak (ASN: 0-2007045), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 3d Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 20 March 1945, in the vicinity of Ensheim, Germany. When the company was held up by an enemy minefield, Lieutenant Ordschak, on his own initiative, went on a reconnaissance under enemy mortar and artillery fire to determine a route through the obstacle. Upon the completion of his hazardous mission, he led the company successfully through the mine field without a casualty from the mines. Although seriously wounded in the leg by artillery fire, he courageously led his men in the successful completion of their mission. Lieutenant Ordschak’s gallantry in action reflects the highest credit upon himself and is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
