The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Glenn J. Miller (ASN: 39597879), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 25 April 1945, in the vicinity of Leipheim, Germany. When the enemy counterattacked, Private First Class Miller, although seriously wounded, refused to withdraw from his exposed position which was then under enemy small arms and artillery fire. He remained in his emplacement and, with his automatic rifle, delivered covering fire, allowing his unit to withdraw to a more tenable defensive position. His position was overrun by the enemy, and when it was later retaken, he was missing. Private First Class Miller’s gallantry in action reflect the highest credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
