The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Albert J. Rodgers, Jr. (ASN: 39085987), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual combat with the enemy while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, on 23 April 1945, in the vicinity of Kirchberg, Germany. When the tank upon which Private First Class Rodgers and the rest of the squad were riding fell through a bridge, the entire squad dropped to the water ten feet below. Private First Class Rodgers, badly bruised while climbing up the slippery bank, noticed a soldier being carried down the stream by the swift current. He immediately dove into the water and succeeded in bringing the stunned man to shore and safety. This heroic act by Private First Class Rodgers is in keeping with the fine traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
