The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Gentil G. Perry (ASN: 12161525), United States Army, for heroism not involving conflict with the enemy serving with Company I, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, on 2 June 1945, in the vicinity of Weikersheim, Germany. While watching some children swimming, Private First Class Perry noticed a small boy in the throes of drowning. Unhesitantly, Private First Class Perry dove into the water fully dressed and swam toward the drowning boy who had disappeared under the water. Diving under the water, Private First Class Perry successfully brought him up and pulled him to shore where he administered artificial respiration and revived the victim. The courage of Private First Class Perry is in keeping with the fine traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
