The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Thomas E. Quinn (ASN: 35098944), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 15 March 1945, in the vicinity of Ommersheim, Germany. When the leader of the assault team became a casualty, Sergeant Quinn took command. He organized the team and advanced on pillbox positions using a section of heavy machine guns to cover the approach. When the man with the pole charge was wounded as he moved out to place his charge, Sergeant Quinn rushed forward, picked up the charge and under heavy small arms fire succeeded in destroying the enemy position. Sergeant Quinn’s outstanding courage and leadership was directly responsible for the seizure of the unit objective and is in keeping with the fine traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
