The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Private First Class] Murray M. Moore (ASN: 35927718), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 12 April 1945, in the vicinity of Lampoldshauson, Germany. From a position of safety, Sergeant Moore observed a wounded rifleman who was the target for enemy sniper and machine gun fire. Without regard for his personal safety, he crawled under enemy fire to the wounded man and carried him to a safe place. He then returned to the exposed position and directed the fire of his mortar on the enemy emplacements. Sergeant Moore’s gallantry under fire reflects credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
