The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant George M. Adamson (ASN: 34710322), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 7 April 1945, in the vicinity of Krautheim, Germany. Sergeant Adamson was leading his squad in an enveloping maneuver to flank the enemy on a key terrain feature. The squad was unexpectedly exposed to enemy small arms and mortar fire and could not move to a safer area. Realizing his squad would be destroyed, Sergeant Adamson gallantly and with complete disregard for his personal safety crawled under fire to a commanding position and engaged the enemy in a fire fight, enabling his squad to withdraw to safety. During his valiant stand, Sergeant Adamson was killed by enemy shell fire. His brave sacrifice is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
