Navy Federal Credit Union

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Fred D. Weber (ASN: 42187169), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 15 March 1945, in the vicinity of Sarreguemines, France. During an attack, Private First Class Weber discovered a mine field. He warned the riflemen not to proceed further forward as there was a possibility of more concealed mines. Then, under intense enemy small arms and artillery fire, he deactivated the mine field. After four hours of extremely dangerous work, he had completely neutralized the mine field, and the rifle companies continued the attack. This heroic act reflects the highest credit upon Private First Class Weber and the Armed Forces of the United States.
