Headquarters, 63d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 403 (July 20, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Ausbon F. Miller (ASN: 34918414), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 3 January 1945, in the vicinity of Aichen, France. As an enemy tank bore down upon his position firing its machine gun, Sergeant Miller courageously continued to return its fire with his own machine gun. He forced the tank to make a withdrawal and despite enemy small arms fire, followed it, firing his machine gun from the crook of his arm. He took a covered position only when his ammunition was exhausted. Sergeant Miller’s gallant action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
