The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Grant U. Snyder (ASN: 32315574), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 15 March 1945, in the vicinity of Auersmacher, Germany. Although his company was under a barrage of artillery fire, Sergeant Snyder volunteered to enter an enemy mine field to rescue a wounded soldiers. Without regard for his safety, he entered the mine field in full view of the enemy and administered first aid to the wounded man. While still under fire, he cleared a path through the field in order that the man might be evacuated. Sergeant Snyder’s gallantry under fire is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
