The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Edmund R. Estrella (ASN: 1904973), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 9 April 1945, in the vicinity of Jagstberg, Germany. Two deadly machine guns were causing heavy casualties and effectively holding up the entire company. Sergeant Estrella, advancing boldly in short rushes firing his machine gun from the hip, destroyed the enemy machine gun emplacements, killing four of the enemy and capturing three single-handed. This gallantry in action reflects the highest credit upon Sergeant Estrella and is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
