The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Raymond G. Braunsreuter (ASN: 42009210), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 31 March 1945, in the vicinity of Plunkstadt, Germany. Sergeant Braunsreuter’s platoon was held up by heavy enemy artillery and machine gun fire, which was delaying the advance of the entire company. Leaving his men in protected positions, Sergeant Braunsreuter moved out in advance in order to observe the location of the enemy’s artillery. Although he drew heavy sniper and machine gun fire, he remained in an exposed position until he had located the enemy guns. While returning to his platoon, he was struck by an enemy sniper’s bullet. In spite of a painful wound, he crawled back to his unit and refused to be evacuated until he had reported the locations of the enemy guns. Sergeant Braunsreuter’s courage and devotion to duty under enemy fire are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
