    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Edward F. Holzer (ASN: 32926622), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 23 April 1945, in the vicinity of Weldenburg, Germany. When the platoon was fired on by an enemy machine gun, Private First Class Holzer made a visual reconnaissance of the situation and estimated two enemy in the machine gun position. He charged the emplacement, killing one of the enemy and wounding the other. The outstanding courage and gallantry displayed by Private First Class Holzer enabled his platoon to continue with their mission and was in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
